Genuine Reason for Ownership
SARPA, through its affiliations with Target Pistol Australia (TPA) and Shooting Australia (SA) is the ONLY shooting organisation in South Australia which can provide pathways to Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games selection for the shooting sports should any member have the desire to perform at these levels.TPA has the rights to field National Teams and host domestic events through its affiliations with ISSF, WA1500, Handgun Metallic Silhouette, and Action Pistol (Civilian Marksmanship Program, CMP) all of which are genuine reasons for the ownership and use of handguns in Australia.
Open Competitions
SARPA Clubs organise State Championships and Open Competitions, providing opportunities for club-level competitors to participate in competitions outside their home clubs and to provide a pathway for shooters to National Team selection.
Insurance
More directly, SARPA benefits each of its members with Insurance.
We provide access to firearms and related equipment insurance, through Marsh Insurance, up to $12,000 for firearms at home, on the range and when traveling.This is included in capitation.The insurance may be increased to $25,000 by direct negotiation with Marsh Insurance.
SARPA, through its affiliation with Shooting Australia (via Target Pistol Australia), provide access to insurance, for clubs, members, committee members, instructors, coaches, volunteers, and officials covering accidental injury and legal issues.
We have been involved, with Marsh Insurance, in negotiating insurance cover for buildings and equipment on ranges which has been almost impossible to arrange as the tide of media opinion turns against shooting sports.
Representation
SARPA has a representative on the Combined Firearms Council, which negotiates with the government and SAPOL on issues relevant to the Firearms Act and its Regulations. ​ Examples include negotiating on attendances during COVID, Black Powder attendances, Justification to own a firearm etc..
Range Supplies
SARPA provides targets, patches, and other range supplies which are sourced from various suppliers at the best possible prices and provided to members at cost.
Training
SARPA provides training for Firearm Safety Awareness Trainers; Coaches; ISSF, Service/WA1500, Action Match, and Black Powder range officers, and club-level range officers. ​We also provide training for Holster Instructors and provide Holster Accreditation.
Communication
SARPA maintains an up-to-date website with Members ONLY access to results, photographs, newsletters, current forms, and procedures, and public access to upcoming Events, Policies, Constitutions, and Member Protection information.
The SARPA e-News provides members with stories from other members about competitions they have attended, news about their clubs including improvements undertaken, events, and club information.The publication may also include articles from specialists in various fields related to competitive shooting. ​
VALUE for MONEY
SARPA annual capitation fee is kept at the lowest possible to maintain the organisation.
Current fees are $130 per full member and $75 per junior member of which TPA fees for 2025/26 are $60 per full member and $27 per junior member.
Member Insurance premiums are $28 per member and salary and super for office administration is $18 per member (proportionally) leaving a margin of approximately $25 per member for general expenses such as State Team travel, accommodation, printing, web maintenance, internet, auditor and telephone expenses.
Other income is derived from interest on term deposits which allows SARPA to keep fees at a minimum and helps pay for such things as the State Team and Junior development.
Competition with the elite
In NO other sporting body can you compete shoulder-to-shoulder with Olympic or Commonwealth Games athletes or medallists, but you can in SARPA club organised events.
